She was a member of Norview Presbyterian Church in Norfolk when she was younger and enjoyed singing and playing church hymns on her piano. She never missed an opportunity to sit down and play games with her grandchildren. She was a great cook and many holidays were spent at her house eating and having fun. Also, “Tennessee” Holbert, her “adopted” grandchild who was always there for her. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Carolyn Stant son Arthur Reed Akers III (Karen) sister, Emma Lee Edwards grandchildren, Amanda Sawyer, Heather Akers (Patrick), Art Akers (Deborah), and Garland Akers (Karen) great grandchildren Amber Anderson (Kirk), Steven Sawyer, Reed Akers, Jenna Akers and Morgan Akers great-great grandchildren, Kayla Anderson and Payton Akers. Grimstead and the widow of Arthur Reed “Sonny” Akers, Jr. She was the daughter of the late Garland Lee and Ella B. She was surrounded by her loving family at Albemarle Hospital in the days preceding her death. ELIZABETH CITY: Margie “Mom-Mom” Grimstead Akers, 86, of Sample Drive passed away Septemafter a long illness.
